I began my career in 1993 as a Special Education teacher in grades K-8 in the Cabarrus County Schools district. In 2007, I joined the KCS family as a Literacy Instructional Coach at Kannapolis Intermediate School. I have always had a desire to return to my high school alma mater, so I moved to A.L. Brown in 2014 to serve as the Freshman Transition and Student Support Coordinator. I love the students at A.L. Brown and dedicate my work to helping them find their unique learning abilities, develop perseverance, and set goals for their future.
I believe the most important skill we can teach our students is how to think and self-advocate. As educators, we must build relationships and know our students as people before we can fill their minds with content or facts. Mistakes should be seen as learning experiences and risk-taking should be encouraged. I believe in preparing students for post high school education, but I believe more in preparing students for life.
"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." - Aristotle
