Educational Philosophy
“Because philosophy arises from awe, a philosopher is bound in his way to be a lover of myths and poetic fables. Poets and philosophers are alike in being big with wonder.” - Thomas Aquinas

I believe that the starting point for all learning and appreciation of knowledge is having a sense of awe and wonder.  My job as a teacher is to instill within each of my students this sense of curiosity as they approach the world’s great literature for themselves.  My desire is that they can value and understand  their own  life experience more while learning how to  critically think about the worldviews and experiences of others.  For that reason, being “big with wonder” is an essential part of one’s educational growth and development.

What's New?
Anyone enrolled in my English II Honors classes, first or second semester, should read Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, and Pilgrim's Progress, by John Bunyan.  After reading the two books, you should write a three-page essay which demonstrates your understanding of how the books are similar, and how they are different.  You should also identify any main themes or symbols in the books.  There is no vocabulary component to this reading assignment because I want you to focus on reading and thinking...You might even enjoy it!
